The apps

1. WorkLogs44

WorkLogs44 Our Pick

WorkLogs44, listed on the App Store as Payroll Calculator: WorkLogs44, calculates a full payroll for a team and shows what it costs you as the employer. For each employee it works out federal income tax, state income tax for all 50 states plus DC, Social Security, Medicare and the Additional Medicare Tax. W-4 inputs cover both the pre-2020 and post-2020 forms.

Pay can be hourly or salary, across eight pay frequencies from daily to yearly. Overtime runs at custom multipliers, and pay can include tips, commissions, bonuses and reimbursements. Pre-tax deductions cover traditional 401(k), HSA, Health FSA and Dependent Care FSA. Post-tax deductions cover Roth 401(k), Roth 403(b), Roth 457(b), union dues and creditor garnishments.

The employer side is where it differs from the rest of this list. It adds the Social Security match at 6.2% capped at the federal wage base, the Medicare match at 1.45%, FUTA at 0.6% with the $7,000 cap, and SUTA at the rate and wage base you enter for your state. You can also add your own lines for benefits and workers’ comp. Per-employee year-to-date tracking stops Social Security and FUTA at their caps.

You can save separate payrolls for teams, departments or what-if hires. A sample 3-employee payroll loads so you can try it first. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android and was updated in August 2026.

There are no ads and no account. It works offline and keeps your data on the device, and its privacy label declares no data used to track you. The listing calls its results estimates and does not mention paying employees, filing tax forms or making pay stubs.

Pros
  • Employer FICA match, FUTA and SUTA on top of each employee’s take-home pay, the only listing here that states them
  • Saved payrolls for several employees, teams or what-if hires
  • W-4 inputs for the pre-2020 and post-2020 forms, eight pay frequencies, and garnishments
  • No ads and no account, works offline, and keeps your data on the device
Cons
  • No App Store ratings yet
  • The store page does not say which features are free and which need Pro
  • SUTA rates and wage bases are entered by you, and pay stubs, export and local tax are not on the listing

Pricing: Free to download. Pro is $2.99 a week or $29.99 a year, after a 7-day free trial.

Best for: small employers who want each worker’s take-home pay and the full employer cost of a payroll in one place.

2. Paycheck: Paystub Generator by Span Enterprises LLC

Paycheck: Paystub Generator Most Rated

With 4.89 stars from about 3,700 US ratings, Paycheck: Paystub Generator has the most ratings on this page and the highest average of any competitor. Its description calls it 123PayStubs, and it has been on the App Store since 2020. No other competitor reaches 1,000 ratings, so no Top Rated badge is given.

It makes pay stubs for employers, small businesses, contractors and the self-employed. Its listing says federal tax, state tax, FICA and YTD totals are calculated automatically for all 50 states. You get 30 or more templates with your logo, an address book, and up to 20 stubs at once for multiple employees. Custom earnings cover overtime, bonuses, commissions and tips, and custom deductions cover items such as 401(k), health insurance and garnishments. Stubs download as PDF or go out by email.

The first pay stub is free, and so are revisions. Neither the App Store nor Google Play lists an in-app purchase, though, and neither says what later stubs cost. The listing names no employer taxes, local tax or W-4 inputs. It sells mobile and web sync, so this is not an on-device app.

Reviewers from 2020 to 2025 say it is quick and easy to use, and reviewers from 2020 and 2021 praise its tax math. Reviewers from 2022 to early 2023 say they paid for a stub that stayed stuck on “being generated”. Later reviews do not repeat that complaint. It was updated in May 2026.

Pros
  • Automatic federal, state and FICA tax for all 50 states, per its listing
  • 30 or more templates with your company logo
  • Up to 20 pay stubs at once for multiple employees
  • First stub and all revisions free
Cons
  • The App Store page does not print a per-stub price
  • Employer taxes and local tax are not stated
  • Mobile and web sync, so your data is not kept only on the device

Pricing: Free to download with the first pay stub free. Paycheck: Paystub Generator by Span Enterprises LLC lists no in-app purchases on the App Store or Google Play and does not state a per-stub price.

Best for: an employer who needs finished pay stubs with the withholding worked out and is fine paying for stubs after the free first one.

3. My Paycheck Calculator by Bird Software LLC

My Paycheck Calculator

My Paycheck Calculator is built for one worker’s own pay. It has been on the App Store since 2023, has 4.67 stars from 244 US ratings, and was updated in September 2026, the latest of any app here.

It shows net income after federal, state and local taxes, FICA, retirement savings and payroll deductions, for tax years 2021 to 2026. State tax covers all 50 states plus DC. Local city and county taxes cover 14 states, up from New York only before February 2026. Income can be salary, hourly wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, tips and shift differentials. A September 2026 update lets you enter deductions as a percentage of income.

It also goes past a single paycheck, with stock compensation, self-employment and investment income, a refund or amount-owed estimate, tax deadline reminders and up to 6 years of history. You can run several employers and states at once, save scenarios and compare two side by side. Exports come as PDF, Excel, CSV or an image summary. Inputs sync through iCloud across iPhone and iPad, and there is an Android version. No ads are declared, and its privacy label declares no data used to track you.

The catch is pricing. The App Store lists nine in-app purchases named only by length, from $1.59 a week to $34.99 a year, and does not say what they unlock. A March 2026 update made 2026 tax-year calculations free for all users. The listing does not mention W-4 inputs, employer taxes or payroll for several employees.

Pros
  • Local city and county taxes in 14 states
  • Export to PDF, Excel, CSV or image
  • Several jobs and states at once, with side-by-side scenarios
  • Updated in September 2026
Cons
  • Nine in-app purchases named only by length, with no word on what they unlock
  • Built for one worker; employer taxes and multiple employees are not stated
  • W-4 inputs are not stated

Pricing: Free to download, with in-app purchases from $1.59 a week to $34.99 a year. What they add is not spelled out on the store page.

Best for: a worker with several jobs, local taxes or stock pay who wants exports and what-if scenarios.

4. Paycheck & Paystub Generator by SecurePayStubs LLC

Paycheck & Paystub Generator

Despite the near-identical name, this is a different app from Span Enterprises’ Paycheck: Paystub Generator. Paycheck & Paystub Generator is made by SecurePayStubs LLC, which markets it as SecurePayStubs. It has been on the App Store since 2023 and has 4.84 stars from 186 US ratings.

It makes pay stubs for employees, contractors and gig workers. The stubs include federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state income tax for all 50 states, and local taxes, though the listing does not say which localities. It takes both the 2020 W-4 and the prior-year form. You can add bonus, overtime, tips, commission and custom earnings, deductions such as insurance and 401(k), and the time-off details some states require.

Templates and corrections are free. A stub for the next pay period takes a single click, and an address book saves business and employee details. You can download a stub or email it, but the file format is not named.

Neither the App Store nor Google Play lists an in-app purchase, yet the listing mentions secure payment gateways and completing an order. It does not say what a stub costs.

It calls itself an online pay stub generator. No ads are declared. Its privacy label declares no data used to track you and lists Contact Info, both linked and not linked to you. The iOS app was last updated in February 2025.

5. Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll by Payrollguru, Inc.

Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll Best Value

Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll gets the Best Value badge for the most generous free tier on this page. The whole app is free, and neither store lists an in-app purchase. It does show ads. It has been on the App Store since 2011 and was updated for 2026 in January 2026.

It works out one net paycheck, from a gross amount or from hourly wages with overtime and double time. That covers federal withholding, Social Security, Medicare, state withholding, and state unemployment and disability where applicable. You set federal and state filing statuses and allowances and enter your year-to-date wages. It compares net pay in “50 different states and US territories” and emails paycheck details to anyone you choose.

Multiple employee profiles, pre-tax and post-tax deductions and a pie chart of the paycheck are not in this app. For those, the listing sends you to the paid Payrollguru app from the same developer. It uses allowances, the pre-2020 W-4 term, and does not mention the newer W-4 fields. On Android it is listed as Paycheck Free.

On the App Store it has 2.52 stars from 161 ratings. In reviews mostly from before 2022, reviewers say its results land close to their real paychecks, while other reviewers say the numbers are off. Reviewers also complain that it stopped working after iOS updates, mostly in 2020 and 2021. They complain about intrusive ads too, mostly in 2017 and 2018, and the October 2018 release notes say “Reduced number of ads.” Its privacy label lists Identifiers and Usage Data, not linked to you, for Third-Party Advertising.

Pros
  • Free, with no in-app purchases on either store
  • Overtime and double time
  • State unemployment and disability where applicable
  • Compares net pay across states

Best for: a quick free check of one paycheck’s withholding, or comparing take-home pay between states.
