Where Payrollguru wins

You pay once and you are done. Payrollguru is $4.99 up front on the US App Store, and neither the App Store nor Google Play lists an in-app purchase. There’s no subscription to keep track of or cancel. WorkLogs44 is free to download, but its Pro plan is $2.99 a week or $29.99 a year after the 7-day free trial.

On the App Store since 2011, and it names its tax year. Payrollguru arrived on the App Store in May 2011. Its latest update, version 4.6 from January 2026, reads “App updated for year 2026.” WorkLogs44’s listing doesn’t say which tax year its tables use.

Reviewers say the math holds up. Reviews from 2011 to 2025 call it accurate, and several say it lands within a few dollars of their real paychecks. Reviewers also flag problems: others say its tax figures were wrong or behind, though most of those complaints date from 2012 to 2014.

A few lines WorkLogs44 does not list. Payrollguru’s list of calculated taxes includes State Disability Insurance and State Unemployment “where applicable”. WorkLogs44’s listing doesn’t mention SDI.

Payrollguru can also email paycheck details to an employee, an employer, or a payroll service, and it shows each paycheck as a pie chart of where the gross pay went. WorkLogs44’s listing states no export or sharing. Payrollguru’s deductions, up to 8, each carry their own federal and state tax switches, so you set which taxes apply to each one.

A small download with a clean privacy label. Payrollguru is 1.4 MB and runs on iOS 13.2 or later. WorkLogs44 is 55.7 MB and needs iOS 15.0. Payrollguru’s App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected”, while WorkLogs44’s lists Purchases, Identifiers, Usage Data, and Diagnostics as data not linked to you.

Where WorkLogs44 wins

It shows the employer’s side of the bill. Payrollguru’s listing is built around the employee’s paycheck. Employer FICA match, FUTA, and employer SUTA are not stated. WorkLogs44 adds the Social Security match at 6.2% (capped at the federal wage base), the Medicare match at 1.45%, FUTA at 0.6% with an override for credit-reduction states, and SUTA at your state’s rate and wage base. Benefits and workers’ comp go on top as flat amounts or percentages of gross.

Payrollguru saves a profile per employee, but its listing doesn’t state a payroll run across the whole team. WorkLogs44 totals one, with gross wages, take-home for each employee, and employer taxes.

Current W-4 inputs, and YTD it keeps for you. Payrollguru’s profiles hold marital status and allowances, which are the pre-2020 W-4 terms. The steps on the 2020-and-later form are not stated. WorkLogs44 takes either form, with filing status, dependents, and additional withholding.

Payrollguru has you type in year-to-date gross. WorkLogs44 tracks it per employee so Social Security and FUTA stop at their caps, and it includes the Additional Medicare Tax. Reviewers say Payrollguru has slipped here before: several said its Social Security or Medicare figures were off in 2012 and 2013, and one reviewer in February 2023 said it missed the Social Security maximum.

More kinds of pay. WorkLogs44 covers 8 pay frequencies from daily to yearly, overtime with custom multipliers, and tips, commissions, bonuses, and reimbursements. Payrollguru covers hourly and salary pay with overtime and double time, but bonus pay is not stated. One reviewer wrote in 2025 that they would give it five stars if it added a section for bonuses.
