Quick answer

Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll by Payrollguru, Inc. is a free paycheck estimator that has been on the App Store since 2011. Its own description just calls it Paycheck Lite. It runs on iPhone and iPad, and the Android version is listed on Google Play as Paycheck Free.

It works out one employee’s take-home pay from a gross amount or hourly wages. The catch is that it shows ads, and for deductions or multiple employee profiles the description sends you to the developer’s separate paid app, Payrollguru.

WorkLogs44 estimates a whole payroll: take-home pay for each employee, plus the employer’s FICA match, FUTA, and SUTA. It’s free to download, with no ads and no account. Pro is $2.99 a week or $29.99 a year after a 7-day free trial.

If you want a free take-home number for one paycheck, or want to compare net pay across states before a move, pick Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll. If you pay a team and need the employer’s side, deductions, and current W-4 inputs, pick WorkLogs44.

Where Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll wins

It is free all the way through. Paycheck Lite costs nothing to download. Neither the App Store nor Google Play lists an in-app purchase, so there’s no trial or plan to keep track of. It covers federal withholding, Social Security, Medicare, state withholding, and state unemployment and disability where applicable. You can start from a gross amount or from hourly wages with overtime and double time. WorkLogs44 is also free to download, but its listing doesn’t say which features need Pro.

It compares states and emails the result. The description says you can “compare net paychecks in 50 different states and US territories”, which is aimed at anyone weighing a job in another state or a move. Paycheck details “can be emailed to employee, employer, payroll service provider, spouse or anyone else.” WorkLogs44 covers all 50 states plus DC, but its listing describes neither a state-to-state comparison nor email or export.

It names its tax year and has years of history. The January 2026 notes read “App updated for 2026.” The version history shows tax-year updates, with gaps: nothing between March 2014 and September 2017, and no update for the 2024 tax year. WorkLogs44’s listing doesn’t say which tax year its tables use.

Paycheck Lite has been on the App Store since 2011. WorkLogs44 launched in 2026.

Reviewers say its numbers come close. They report results that matched their paystub or came within cents or a few dollars, mostly in reviews from 2011 to 2018. The record isn’t clean, though: other reviewers call the math wrong, and 76 of its 161 US ratings are one star. WorkLogs44 has no ratings yet, so there’s nothing to weigh on its side.

Where WorkLogs44 wins

It covers the employer’s side. Paycheck Lite estimates one person’s paycheck, and its listing never mentions an employer FICA match, FUTA, or employer SUTA.

WorkLogs44 adds the 6.2% Social Security match up to the federal wage base, the 1.45% Medicare match, FUTA at 0.6% with the $7,000 cap (you can set a higher rate for credit-reduction states), and SUTA at your state’s rate and wage base. Benefits and workers’ comp go on top as flat or percentage lines.

It handles a team without a second app. Paycheck Lite’s description puts multiple employee payroll profiles and pre-tax and post-tax deductions in the paid Payrollguru app. WorkLogs44 saves separate payrolls for teams, departments, or what-if hires. It tracks year-to-date pay per employee, so the Social Security and FUTA caps stop at the right amount. For deductions, it takes pre-tax 401(k), HSA, and FSAs, plus Roth accounts, union dues, and creditor garnishments.

It takes the current W-4. Paycheck Lite’s description talks about federal and state allowances. That’s the wording of the pre-2020 form, and the description doesn’t mention dependents or extra withholding. WorkLogs44 takes pre-2020 and post-2020 W-4 inputs with filing status, dependents, and additional withholding. It also offers eight pay frequencies and adds tips, commissions, bonuses, and reimbursements. Paycheck Lite’s listing mentions none of these.

No ads, and no account. Paycheck Lite shows ads on both stores. Its privacy label lists Identifiers and Usage Data, not linked to you, for Third-Party Advertising. Reviewers complained about intrusive ads, mostly in 2017 and 2018 on versions 3.0 to 3.4, and the October 2018 notes say “Reduced number of ads.”

Paycheck Lite’s listing doesn’t say whether it works offline or needs an account. WorkLogs44 has no ads, needs no account, works offline, and keeps calculations on the device.

Frequently asked questions

Is Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll really free?

Yes. It is free to download, and neither the App Store nor Google Play lists an in-app purchase. It does show ads. For multiple employee profiles, pre-tax and post-tax deductions, and a pie chart of the gross paycheck, its description points to a separate paid app from the same developer, Payrollguru. WorkLogs44 is free to download with no ads, and Pro is $2.99 a week or $29.99 a year, after a 7-day free trial.

Does Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll calculate employer payroll taxes?

Its listing does not say so. It names federal withholding, Social Security, Medicare, state withholding, and state unemployment and disability where applicable as the taxes behind the net paycheck, and it never mentions an employer FICA match, FUTA, or employer SUTA. WorkLogs44 adds the employer's 6.2% Social Security match up to the federal wage base, the 1.45% Medicare match, FUTA at 0.6% with the $7,000 cap, and SUTA at the rate and wage base you enter.

What is the difference between Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll and Payrollguru?

Both come from Payrollguru, Inc. Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll is the free app with ads. Payrollguru is a separate paid app, and the Paycheck Lite description says that is where multiple employee payroll profiles, pre-tax and post-tax deductions, and the gross-paycheck pie chart are. On Google Play, the free app is listed as Paycheck Free.

Can Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll take out 401(k) or other deductions?

Not in the free app. Its description lists pre-tax and post-tax deductions as a feature of the paid Payrollguru app. WorkLogs44 takes pre-tax traditional 401(k), HSA, Health FSA, and Dependent Care FSA, and post-tax Roth 401(k), Roth 403(b), Roth 457(b), union dues, and creditor garnishments.

Does Paycheck Lite : Mobile Payroll support the 2020 W-4?

Its listing does not say so. The description mentions federal and state allowances and filing statuses, which is the wording of the pre-2020 form, and does not mention the newer form's dependents or extra withholding. WorkLogs44 takes both pre-2020 and post-2020 W-4 inputs, including filing status, dependents, and additional withholding.

WorkLogs44 is on Google Play under the same name it uses on the App Store, Payroll Calculator: WorkLogs44.
